A significant increase of 5.6% was recorded in the prices of building materials in November 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, according to data from ELSTAT (Hellenic Statistical Authority). This rise follows a 5.7% increase observed in November 2023 compared to the previous year.

The surge affected nearly all categories of materials except diesel fuel, which saw an 8.9% decrease. Key increases include:

Bricks (+11.5%)
Copper pipes (+9.7%)
Plastic pipes (+9%)
Radiators (+8.1%)
Electrical switches (+7.2%)
Electricity (+7.1%)
Tiles (+6.1%)
Cement and aluminum frames (both +5.1%)
Plastic paints and solar water heaters (both +5%).

In month-to-month terms, the general index of building material prices rose by 0.4% in November compared to October, slightly higher than the 0.3% increase recorded for the same period in 2023.

The rising costs pose challenges for construction projects and housing developments, particularly as they follow broader trends of inflation and material shortages globally.
