Bar Associations Oppose Possible Mergers and Abolitions of Courts
Objections regarding the planning were identified in the meeting of the presidents of the Bar Associations of East Macedonia and Thrace Region with the president of the regional council.
On Holy Monday, 18-4-2022 at 12.00, in the meeting room of the Regional Council "Georgios Pavlidis" in Komotini, a meeting was held between the President of the Regional Council of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, Mr. Christos Papatheodorou and the Presidents of the 6 Bar Associations of the region.
The meeting took place after the initiative of the President of the Regional Council and was attended by the President of the Orestiada Bar Association, Mrs. Anna Memetzi, the President of the Alexandroupolis Bar Association, Mrs. Zacharoula Tsirtsidou, the President of the Rodopi Bar Association, Mr. Dimitris Ereliadis, the President of the Xanthi Bar Association, Mrs. Despina Chatzifotiadou, the President of the Bar Association of Kavala, Mr. George Grammenos and the President of the Bar Association of Drama, Mr. Anastasios Poulios.
The emerging plan for a new Judicial Charter of the country and the new Code of Organization of Courts, announced at the last Plenary Session of the Presidents of the Bar Associations, was discussed by the Minister of Justice.
A relevant announcement of the president of the Bar Associations states: "this plan will most likely lead to mergers and abolitions of judicial formations, affecting the relevant structures of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. This is planned, without the necessary consultation-dialogue with the Legal world. The Presidents expressed their common position against such a possibility, calling for the current situation to remain unchanged and for the Courts of the region to remain as they are. It was decided to compile a relevant memorandum with the views and arguments of the six Bar Associations of the Region and to launch further actions in cooperation with the Administration of our Region ".
