Androulakis rules out electoral collaboration with SYRIZA

PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis firmly rejected a proposal for electoral collaboration with SYRIZA, closing the door on potential alliances ahead of Greece’s next national elections.

Androulakis dismissed the invitation from SYRIZA leader Sokratis Famellos for a joint ballot, reaffirming PASOK’s independent course.

“I remain unwavering in my commitment to PASOK’s autonomy – this is my pledge to our party’s supporters,” he said before departing for New York to attend a Greek diaspora event.

Responding to speculation about cooperation between so-called progressive parties, Androulakis criticized the discussion’s premise.

“Voters expect solutions, not backstage maneuvers. The New Democracy government will fall when the Greek people see a comprehensive program to improve their lives. If parties merge, does their audience shrink or grow? Who benefits?” he said on Open TV, implying such alliances would ultimately serve the ruling New Democracy party.

His remarks also addressed internal PASOK voices calling for alliances.

“I was elected president [of PASOK] twice with a clear mandate. The Greek people must have a genuine government alternative to New Democracy, and I bear responsibility for ensuring they do,” Androulakis said, although he also acknowledged PASOK’s recent decline in polls.
