A ceremony at the Atatürk House in Thessaloniki

A ceremony organised at the Atatürk House in Thessaloniki for the 101st anniversary of the Republic of Turkiye.

Consul General of Turkiye in Thessaloniki Serkan Gedik, in his speech at the ceremony, greeted the guests and colleagues and stated that they celebrate the Republic Day with enthusiasm and pride.

Gedik said, "We are honoured to be in the house where the Founder of our Republic, the Great Atatürk was born and to celebrate this special day in his spiritual presence." Underlining that the enthusiasm felt since last year, when the first century of the Republic was left behind, has continued to increase this year, Gedik emphasised that they are determined to keep the Republic alive and carry it forward on the path targeted by Atatürk.

Emphasising that the establishment of the Republic and its present existence was achieved through great struggle and sacrifices, the Consul General said: "We commemorate with mercy and gratitude our ancestor, his comrades-in-arms, our beloved martyrs and our veterans who passed away, who struggled on this path and to whom we owe everything we have today, especially independence."

In his speech, Gedik also condemned the terrorist attack against the Turkish Aerospace Industries Corporation (TAI) and wished mercy to the martyrs and urgent healing to the wounded.

Consul General Gedik stated that they are very pleased with the intense interest of visitors to Atatürk House. 

Gedik stated that approximately 450 thousand people visited the museum, which hosted 285 thousand visitors in 2023. Gedik said that all visitors, from seven to seventy, present their devotion to Atatürk in this special place and said, "We welcome everyone, but primarily the young people and children to whom our ancestor entrusted our Republic."
