The Fire Brigade’s Operations Centre received 1,104 calls for assistance from Wednesday to Thursday afternoon due to severe weather conditions.

Most calls came from the Attica region. Of the 752 calls, 255 concerned tree trimming, 362 involved water pumping, 102 involved the removal of objects, and 33 involved the rescue of people. According to a related announcement, the Fire Brigade remains on standby.

Extensive damage and motorist rescues in the Municipality of Dionysos

The severe weather Erminio caused numerous problems in the Municipality of Dionysos, including a landslide on Dionysos Avenue near Agios Petros, the collapse of a road embankment on Meteora Street, and a tree falling onto power lines. There were also reports of citizens trapped in their vehicles.

Municipal crews are working to resolve the issues, most of which occurred on Drosias-Stamatis Avenue and at the junction of Megalou Alexandrou Avenue and Agios Fanourios Street. The Municipality of Dionysos has carried out inspections and undertaken repairs in the affected areas.

Widespread problems from severe weather in the Municipality of Oropos

The severe weather caused significant damage to infrastructure in the Municipality of Oropos. Traffic was halted on the route from Agioi Apostoloi to Markopoulo and Skala Oropos; however, following repairs, the road has now reopened.

During the night, more than thirty vehicles were rescued after becoming trapped in rushing water. Drivers and passengers were safely evacuated.

The deputy mayor of Kalamos-Agioi Apostoloi Yannis Papapetrou, emphasised that the damage is greater than that caused by the severe weather on 28 January.

More than 30 trees down in Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni Municipality

The Municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni has restored traffic across the entire road network. The area did not experience severe flooding; however, due to the bad weather and strong winds, numerous trees were brought down, blocking several routes.The municipal authority reported more than 30 fallen trees, some of which came down on HEDNO power lines, causing power outages.The municipality remains on high alert, with crews continuing restoration work and conducting inspections of flood-control projects. 

Damage on Penteli’s perimeter road from Drafi to Daou and in Kallitechnoupoli

Landslides were reported in the Municipality of Penteli due to Storm Erminio on the mountain road leading from Drafi towards Daou.Traffic police closed the road, while municipal crews are clearing debris. There were also reports of people freed from trapped vehicles, as well as the removal of eight fallen trees.In the Municipality of Rafina-Pikermi, on the road towards Kallitechnoupoli and Daou Penteli, a swollen stream destroyed a large section of the carriageway.
