Dutch authorities have launched an investigation into allegations that a police officer used racist violence against two Muslim women in the city of Utrecht, following the circulation of disturbing footage on social media.

In a written statement, the police confirmed that the incident took place on the evening of January 26 and acknowledged that video recordings of the encounter have spread widely online. The statement noted that the images may be disturbing and raise serious questions, stressing that these concerns are being taken very seriously.

Police officials stated that all available camera footage related to the incident will be thoroughly examined as part of a comprehensive investigation. According to the statement, one of the women was taken into custody on the grounds of allegedly insulting a police officer.

Public broadcaster NOS reported that a police spokesperson acknowledged the strong public reaction to the footage, stating that the images have sparked intense emotions and serious concerns, particularly regarding racism.

Videos shared on social media appear to show a police officer kicking and striking two Muslim women with a baton, prompting widespread outrage and renewed debate over police conduct, racism, and the use of force in the Netherlands.

The investigation remains ongoing.
