Member states now have a two-month deadline to align their national laws with EU requirements. If they fail to do so, the commission may issue a stronger warning, known as a reasoned opinion.

According to the commission, Greece and 26 other member states have not transposed last year’s directive on electricity market design, which aims to stabilize electricity prices for consumers and reduce dependence on fossil fuel costs.

Furthermore, Greece and nine other countries have not implemented provisions requiring the phase-out of financial incentives for stand-alone fossil fuel boilers, as mandated by the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.

Greece has also failed to transpose the DORA Directive, which sets digital operational resilience rules for financial entities, including banks, insurance companies and investment firms, to ensure the smooth operation of the EU’s single market.
