The number of people who have died or been injured in workplace accidents is set to eclipse 2024’s figures, leading Andreas Stoimenidis, head of the Federation of Employee Unions in Technical Enterprises (OSETEE), to speak of a “humanitarian crisis” in the workplace.

According to Kathimerini so far this year, 139 employees have died in workplace accidents and 209 have been seriously injured, he said, while, in the whole of 2024, 149 died and 232 were injured.

Greece is on track to register an “inconceivable 200 deaths in the workplace,” he said, adding that, in summer months, the extreme heat and the resulting exhaustion make workplaces even more dangerous.
