Greece’s unemployment rate fell to 8.2% in September 2025, down from 9.7% a year earlier, according to seasonally adjusted data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) on Thursday.

Greece’s unemployment rate fell to 8.2% in September 2025, down from 9.7% a year earlier, according to seasonally adjusted data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) on Thursday. The figure remained unchanged from the upwardly revised 8.2% recorded in August 2025.

The total number of unemployed persons stood at 385,804, representing a 15.4% decrease (or 70,449 fewer people) compared to September 2024, and a slight 0.1% decline compared to August 2025.

Gender and age breakdown

Unemployment among women dropped to 10.9%, from 11.9% a year earlier, while among men it declined to 6%, compared with 7.9% in September 2024.

By age group, unemployment among young people aged 15–24 stood at 18.5%, down from 19.2% last year, while among those aged 25–74, the rate fell to 7.7%, compared to 9.1% in the same month of 2024.

Employment and labour force trends

The number of employed persons reached 4,326,322 in September, marking an increase of 59,086 people (1.4%) compared to the same month in 2024. However, employment was down by 23,597 people (-0.5%) compared with August 2025.

Meanwhile, the number of people outside the labour force — individuals under 75 who are neither employed nor seeking employment — totaled 3,031,831. This represented a decrease of 15,429 persons (-0.5%) from September 2024 but an increase of 21,675 persons (0.7%) compared with the previous month.
