The number of registered unemployed in Greece declined by 5.9% in January 2026 compared with the same month a year earlier, according to data released by Public Employment Service (DYPA).

The total number of individuals listed in DYPA’s registry reached 923,853 in January, down by 57,521 from January 2025. On a monthly basis, however, the figure edged up by 7,964 people, or 0.9%, compared with December 2025.

Of the total registered unemployed, 417,293 people (45.2%) had been out of work for 12 months or longer, while 506,560 (54.8%) had been registered for less than a year.

Women continued to account for the majority of those registered as unemployed, totaling 594,229 (64.3%), compared with 329,624 men (35.7%).

By age group, those between 30 and 44 years old recorded the highest unemployment levels, with 277,142 individuals, representing 30% of the total.

In terms of education, secondary education — including post-secondary qualifications — accounted for the largest share of registered unemployed, at 451,483 individuals (48.9%).

Regionally, Attica Region and Central Macedonia Region reported the highest numbers, with 267,455 (28.9%) and 169,938 (18.4%) registered unemployed, respectively.
