More time for foreign retirees to move tax residence
Foreign retirees planning to move their tax residence to Greece will have more time to apply for the country’s alternative taxation regime, following a decision by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue.
The annual deadline for applications has been extended from March 31 to October 31, giving retirees an additional seven months to complete the process.
Retirees who transfer their tax residence to Greece by July 2 can benefit from the favorable tax regime in the same year if they submit their application by October 31. Alternatively, they can apply for the regime for the following year by October 31 of that year.
Supporting documents must be submitted by November 30.
Retirees who move their tax residence to Greece after July 2 can apply only for the following year, with applications submitted by October 31 of the year after their relocation.
AADE said the change responds to the needs of interested taxpayers and is intended to make the procedure more flexible for foreign pensioners considering Greece as their new tax residence.
