Greece welcomed more than 4.1 million tourists between January and April 2025, marking a 5.8% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Bank of Greece.

Tourism from non-EU countries fueled the growth, with arrivals increasing by 19.7%, totaling 2 million visitors. Meanwhile, arrivals from EU-27 countries fell by 5.4%, dropping to 2.04 million. Notably, tourists from eurozone member states rose by 3.2%, while non-eurozone EU countries saw a sharp 27.9% decline.

Among individual countries, the United States led the surge, with tourist arrivals rising by 26.9% to reach 339,500 visitors. The United Kingdom followed closely, recording a 41.5% increase, totaling 294,600 visitors. However, key European markets showed mixed performance: Germany saw a modest 3.6% rise to 475,500 visitors, while France and Italy recorded declines of 22.6% and 11%, respectively.

In terms of transportation, air travel arrivals increased by 10.8%, indicating a strong preference for flight travel. In contrast, land border arrivals declined by 3.9%.

The boost in arrivals translated into higher revenues, with tourism income rising by 10.6% year-on-year, reaching €2.1 billion. This growth was primarily driven by a 26% surge in spending from non-EU visitors, who contributed €1 billion. In contrast, revenues from EU-27 countries fell by 1.8%, totaling €1.025 billion.

Tourism remains a key pillar of the Greek economy, and the strong early-season figures suggest a promising summer season ahead.
