Greece has doubled the daily limit for money transfers through the IRIS payments system to €1,000, effective Thursday, amid growing use of the mobile-based service.

The new ceiling applies to both peer-to-peer transfers and payments to businesses. IRIS allows users to make transactions via mobile phone numbers or QR codes.

According to newly released data for 2025, the number of personal transactions carried out through IRIS rose by 90% year-on-year, reaching 111.4 million transactions by 4.3 million users.

The service is also used by 583,445 registered businesses, reflecting its rapid expansion in Greece’s digital payments market.
