Carbon monitoring underway in Kavala ahead of 2027 storage launch

The first sample to test for the presence of carbon dioxide in the Gulf of Kavala was taken in November 2024, while a second sample was taken in March, in view of the implementation of the CO2 storage investment at Prinos, developed by EnEarth, a subsidiary of Energean.

The samples were taken using the research vessel Filia, belonging to the Hellenic Center for Marine Research, within the framework of the COREu pilot research program.

The purpose of the samples is to record the natural occurrence of carbon dioxide in the Gulf of Kavala and the parameters that affect this, so that there is a comparison sample during the environmental monitoring of the storage project when it will be put into operation from 2027 onward.
