Signatures for the Alexandroupoli – Burgas pipeline in February
The agreement between the two countries for the oil pipeline planned to be built between Alexandroupoli and Burgas in Bulgaria is expected to be signed in February.
According to reports in the national press, the signatures will be signed at a special event to be held in Athens in February. Experts from Greece and Bulgaria will start the project work after the signing of the signature for the pipeline, which will provide oil flow from Alexandroupoli to Burgas.
While comments are made that the strategic importance of Alexandroupoli will increase after the pipeline becomes operational, it is claimed that the importance of the Dardanelles and Istanbul straits will decrease.
The pipeline, with a total length of 260 kilometers, is expected to provide 10 million tons of oil flow.
Emphasizing that the US and EU fully support the project and that it is important in terms of ending Bulgaria's dependence on Russian oil, it was stated that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is expected to visit Greece on Tuesday, February 21, may also come to Alexandroupoli.
The construction of the pipeline is expected to begin in 1-2 years and to be completed in about 4 years.
