HÖH increases its success in local elections in Bulgaria

The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (HÖH/DPS) improved its results in the local elections held on 29 October compared to the 2019 local elections by expanding its support and influence. The Movement won 32 mayorships in the first round in 2019 and 37 in 2023. In 5 municipalities where mayors were elected in the first round, the HÖH is in alliances that cancelled their candidature.

HÖH mayors achieved the best results in the local elections of 29 October 2023.

Seven of them received more than 90 per cent support. Nebi Bozov won the elections in Serbnitsa with 96.43 per cent of the vote. Radoslav Revanski begins his new term in Belitsa with 95.01 per cent confidence. Merdin Bayram won the elections in Vyrbitsa with 94.44 per cent of the votes, while Najmi Ali will govern Jabal again with 93.55 per cent of the votes.

Aycan Ahmet won the elections with 92.02 percent in Chernouchene, Mustafa Karaahmet with 91.15 percent in Borino and Nehriban Ahmedova with 90.68 percent in Venets.

Dr. Arben Mimenov starts his seventh term in Satovça with 89.75 percent support, Ilknur Kazim is again the Mayor of Momchilgrad Municipality with 87.53 percent support. Mehmet Vaklyov became Mayor of Yakoruda with 87.36 per cent support. In Stambolovo Adnan Yildiz became mayor with 86.68 per cent, in Krumovgrad Sebihan Mehmet with 83.65 per cent, in Samuil Cevdet Azis with 82.76 per cent, in Madan Fahri Molaysenov with 82.67 per cent, in Mineralni Bani Mümun Iskender with 81.04 per cent, in Ardino İzzet Şaban with 80.80 per cent.

HÖH won all 7 mayorships in Kardzhali province. Erol Mümün received 60.25 per cent support in Kardzhali and Şinasi Süleyman received 78.58 per cent support in Kirkovo.

In Blagoevgrad region, HÖH won the election in the first round in Gırmen, where Feim İsa was elected with 68.76 per cent of the votes.

HÖH made a breakthrough in Sungurlare. Until now, the Movement did not have a mayor in the town. Now in the first round Dimityr Gavazov won the election with 55,83% of the votes. The other municipality in Burgas province where the Movement won the elections was Ruen. Ahmet Mehmet was elected Mayor of Ruen with 78.50 per cent of the votes.

In Dobrich region, Ilhan Musteceb was elected Mayor for the new term in Krushari with 71.60 per cent of the votes. The FPM won the mayor's office in the municipality of Lyki in Plovdiv (Plovdiv) region. There Valentin Simeonov won the election with 51.70 per cent of the votes.

In Razgrad region, HÖH candidates Belgin Shukri won the elections in Isperih with 63.67 percent of the votes, Alkin Nebi in Kubrat with 50.06 percent, Sevgin Shukri in Loznitsa with 52.86 percent, Daud Alaoglu in Tsar Kaloyan with 65.05 percent and Ahter Veliev in Zavet with 56.44 percent.

HÖH won the elections in Vetovo in Ruse region. There Dr Mehmet Mehmet was elected Mayor with 77.06 percent of the votes.

In the Silistre region, Necdet Niyazi became mayor of Glavinitsa with 76.51 per cent of the votes and Sezgin Aliibram became mayor of Sitovo with 55.83 per cent of the votes.  

In the Smolyan region, the movement won the first round of elections in Rudozem, where Nedko Kulevski received 62.53 per cent support.

Isa Besooglu won the election for mayor of Pavel Banya in Stara Zagora with 79.38 per cent of the votes.

In the region of Targovishte, the FPM won the elections in Antonovo, where Hayredin Mehmedov was elected Mayor with 57.12 per cent of the votes, and in Opaka, where Güner Aşimov was elected Mayor with 52.22 per cent of the votes.

In Haskovo region, the FPM also won the elections in Macarovo. There Ercan Yusuf was elected mayor in the first round with 77.43 per cent of the votes.

In Kaolinovo, also in the Shumen region, the FÖH won the elections. Nida Ahmedov became mayor with 76.15 per cent support.

HÖH achieved a breakthrough in Nikola Kozlevo. Here Ismail Ibram (50.73%), who was nominated by an alliance formed with the committed participation of the HÖH, became Mayor in the first round.

In 4 other districts, where HÖH joined the alliance, mayors were elected in the first round. They are Nikolay Kolev in Gilabovo (59,70%), Svetoslav Slavchev in Dimovo (57,22%), Todor Todorov in Hayredin (81,09%) and Zdravko Ivanov in Devin (64,18%).

On 5 November 2023, HÖH will participate in the second round of mayoral elections in Dulovo, Tutrakan, Nikolaevo, Veliki Preslav and Nikopol.
