Bulgarian family rescued from Mt Olympus after weather-related stranding

A four-member Bulgarian family was safely rescued early Sunday morning after becoming stranded on Mount Olympus in northern Greece due to unfavorable weather conditions the previous night.

The fire brigade received a call on Saturday evening from the family, who reported they had lost their bearings in the Zonaria area, at an altitude of approximately 2,600 meters. Snow, strong winds, and rain had made navigation difficult.

The parents, both experienced mountain climbers, were accompanied by their two children, an 11-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter. They remained in regular contact with emergency teams during the overnight rescue operation, reporting no injuries.

After finding the family, rescue crews assisted its members to a mountain shelter about 600 meters lower in elevation, where they were able to rest and recover.
