Nadine Menendez, wife of former U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, was sentenced Thursday to 4½ years in prison for her role in a bribery scheme that involved cash, gold bars, and a luxury car in exchange for political favors.

Convicted in April, Nadine Menendez was found to have conspired with her husband between 2018 and 2023 in a series of corrupt dealings, including efforts to benefit the Egyptian government. Prosecutors described her as a central figure in the scheme, serving as a go-between for the senator and three New Jersey businessmen.

According to AP article published in DailySabah, during sentencing, Menendez tearfully blamed her husband, calling him a manipulative liar. However, Judge Sidney H. Stein said she played a “purposeful” role and was not merely a bystander.

In addition to prison time, she received three years of supervised release. The judge allowed her to delay reporting to prison until July 2026 due to medical issues. Her legal team plans to appeal.

Bob Menendez is currently serving an 11-year sentence for related charges.
