A bus driver’s alertness helped prevent a potential tragedy.

A woman in New Zealand has been taken into custody after allegedly placing her two-year-old daughter inside a suitcase and traveling with her on a public bus. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, was intercepted thanks to the vigilance of the bus driver.

According to local police, the 27-year-old woman is facing charges of child abuse and neglect. The shocking discovery took place at a bus stop in the town of Kaiwaka, located approximately 100 kilometers north of Auckland on the country’s North Island.

The bus driver became suspicious after noticing unusual movement coming from one of the pieces of luggage. He immediately contacted the authorities. Upon opening the suitcase, the driver found a two-year-old girl inside.

Police official Harrison praised the driver’s quick thinking, stating that his actions likely prevented the situation from taking a far more tragic turn.

Emergency services transported the child to a nearby hospital. Medical staff have confirmed that the girl is in stable condition, though she is undergoing comprehensive health evaluations.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the motives behind the woman’s actions. The investigation remains ongoing.
