Israeli army launches ground attack on Rafah area of Gaza
In a statement released by the army, the 162nd Division and the 401st Armoured Brigade supported the army units east of Rafah and took control of the Rafah border crossing from Gaza to Egypt.
In the statement stating that full control was established on the Palestinian side of the gate, which is about 3.5 kilometres from Egypt, it was noted that 20 Palestinians were killed in the attack.
It was reported that the Israeli army targeted some buildings close to the Rafah Border Gate in the south of the Gaza Strip with rockets, and it was recorded that artillery shells were fired at areas close to the Rafah Border Gate and Kerem Abu Salim Border Gate.
Al-Aqsa TV, which is known to be close to Hamas, stated that the Israeli army fired heavy shelling on the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to AA correspondent also stated that Israeli warplanes carried out attacks on areas close to the Rafah border crossing.
Hamas had approved the ceasefire proposal
Ismail Heniyye, the head of the Hamas Movement's Political Bureau, informed Qatar and Egypt that he had approved their proposals for a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
After Hamas announced its approval of the "ceasefire proposals" submitted by Qatar and Egypt, the Israeli War Cabinet decided to continue attacks in Rafah.
In a statement released on 6 May, the Israeli army demanded the evacuation of some neighbourhoods east of Rafah, where displaced Palestinians had taken refuge.
According to the Israeli Army Radio, approximately 100 thousand Palestinians reside in the area east of Rafah, which is requested to be evacuated.

While thousands of dead are still reported under the rubble, civilian infrastructure is also being destroyed by targeting hospitals and educational institutions where people take shelter.
Aid entry was stopped at the Rafah Border Gate, which was attacked by the Israeli army
Vail Abu Mohsen, Media Director of the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza, made a statement to AA.
Abu Mohsen stated that simultaneously with the arrival of Israeli military vehicles in the region, the movement and humanitarian aid crossings were completely stopped at the Rafah Border Crossing.
Kassam Brigades targeted Israeli soldiers east of the Rafah border crossing
The Kassam Brigades made a written statement after the Israeli army launched a ground attack on Rafah city and announced that it captured the Palestinian side of the border crossing of Gaza to Egypt.
"The Kassam Brigades are attacking the enemy (Israeli) forces entering the east of the Rafah border crossing with heavy calibre mortars," the statement said.
The Israeli army warned the residents of the region to evacuate their homes with leaflets dropped in the east of the city after the ground attack on Rafah city of the Gaza Strip under the blockade and attacks.
