International humanitarian organisations call to save the humanitarian system in Gaza
The Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC), led by the United Nations (UN) and including humanitarian organisations, has called for the rescue of the humanitarian system in Gaza.
In the statement, it was pointed out that tens of thousands of Palestinians were killed and displaced in less than 5 months after 7 October, and it was stated that the Palestinian people were severely deprived of food, water, sanitation and health services, which are basic needs for life.
The statement said that the health system has seriously deteriorated and only 12 out of 36 hospitals are partially operational.
In the statement, it was noted that the disease has become widespread, hunger has increased and water is almost dripping, and it was emphasised that basic infrastructures have also been destroyed.
In the statement, "Food production has stopped. Hospitals have been transformed into conflict zones and 1 million children are exposed to traumas on a daily basis."
Welfare warning
Pointing out that Rafah has also turned into a conflict zone, the statement warned: "Further conflicts in this densely populated region will lead to huge loss of life and deal a fatal blow to the humanitarian system, which is already in a very bad situation."
"There is nowhere safe in Gaza," the statement emphasised, noting that humanitarian aid workers are also working under great risk.
"We call for saving the humanitarian aid system," the statement said.
In this context, the statement requested that certain conditions be fulfilled in order to provide basic needs such as medicine, drinking water, food and shelter:
"We call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, the protection of civilians and infrastructure, the release of prisoners, the passage of humanitarian aid through all crossings, security guarantees for humanitarian aid distributors, the establishment of an effective warning system, the construction of roads cleared of explosives, the establishment of a stable communications network, the provision of essential supplies to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, and an end to campaigns to discredit the UN and civil society organisations."
Emphasising that humanitarian aid organisations maintain their determination despite all the risks, the statement called on Israel to fulfil its obligations under international humanitarian and human rights law.
The statement also called on world leaders to prevent an even greater catastrophe.
