HCA Says Its Protections Don’t Cover Hail-hit Areas in Southern Bulgaria

The Hail Control Agency said Sunday that its system does not cover the areas in southern Bulgaria that were badly hit by hail storms on Saturday. The Bulgarian New agency reported.

The agency’s anti-hail rockets protect the districts of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, all in northern Bulgaria, and Pazardjik, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sliven and Haskovo, and anti-hail aircraft protect north-central and northeastern Bulgaria. “Unfortunately, the agency does not provide protection in the southern district of Smolyan and the Rhodope mountain range, more particularly the municipalities of Nedelino, Madan, Zlatograd and Devin, which were hit by torrential rain and hail on Saturday. Orchards and vegetable gardens were largely destroyed by hail there,” the Hail Control Agency said.

It has seven radars for weather monitoring on the entire Bulgarian territory and the information from those is available for use by all institutions and organizations that need it.

This past week Bulgaria and the neighbouring countries experiences intense and sweeping meteorological processes, often involving violent hail storms. The agency said. On May 28, the agency fired over 450 anti-hail rockets in the regions of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa and Plovdiv.

It goes on to say that all farmers can claim compensations for destroyed farmed areas from the local agriculture services.
