Club’s chief executive Paul Barber confirms player to go into 14-day isolation

A third player at Brighton has tested positive for the coronavirus, the English football club’s chief executive said on Sunday.

"Despite all of the measures that we've been taking over the past few weeks, where the players haven't been involved in any significant training at all, we've still suffered another player testing positive for the virus," Paul Barber told Sky Sports.

He added the player, whose identity was not revealed, will go into 14-day isolation.

Previously, two other players contracted at the club contracted the virus.

Having 29 points, Brighton were 15th in the table, when the league was suspended in March.

After originating in China last December, COVID-19 has spread to at least 187 countries and regions. Europe and the US are currently the worst-hit regions.

The pandemic has killed over 279,700 worldwide with more than 4.05 million total infections, while recoveries surpassed 1.38 million, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.
