At least eleven people, including seven students, were killed in a shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in western Canada on Tuesday, authorities said. Twenty-seven others were injured, two of them seriously.

At least eleven people, including seven students, were killed in a shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in western Canada on Tuesday, authorities said. Twenty-seven others were injured, two of them seriously.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said officers responding to reports of an active shooter found six victims dead inside the school, while a seventh died on the way to hospital. Two additional bodies were later discovered at a nearby residence believed to be connected to the incident.

Accordign to AFP, police said the suspected shooter was found dead at the school with what appeared to be a self-inflicted injury. Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity.

The small mountain town of about 2,400 residents, located more than 1,100 kilometers north of Vancouver, was left in shock.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was “devastated” by the “horrific” violence, while British Columbia Premier David Eby called it “unimaginable.” The investigation is ongoing.
