Xanthi to elect its new mufti tomorrow

In Western Thrace, after the death of the Mufti of Xanthi Ahmet Mete, mufti elections will be held in mosques in Xanthi on Friday, September 9 (tomorrow).
Two candidates will compete in the mufti election to be held in mosques in Xanthi on Friday (tomorrow). In the election where Mustafa Trampa and Mustafa Kamo will compete, the winner will be the third elected mufti of Xanthi.
Those Muslims who attend the Friday prayer will be able to elect the mufti by raising their hands after the prayer. Accordingly, the candidate with the most support will win the election.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA), one of the candidates, Mustafa Trampa, stated that according to the Treaty of Lausanne, the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace has the right to elect their own mufti, but this right has been usurped.
Stating that the new mufti law passed by the parliament about a month ago did not meet the demands of the minority for the right to elect their own mufti, Trampa said that the law is full of oddities.
"Election of mufti is proof that we do not recognize the law of mufti of the Greek state"
Trampa said, "It is very strange that the new mufti law started to be talked about right after the death of our late mufti Ahmet Mete. It is very remarkable in every respect. These are laws that are not accepted by the minority because they are against the fundamental rights and freedoms of the minority." said.
Stating that they did not accept the new mufti law, Trampa said, "The mufti election to be held on Friday is proof that we do not recognize the new mufti law of the Greek state." he said.
Trampa Pointed out that the Xanthi mufti Office is an ancient institution, he emphasized that the mufti is also effective in keeping the unity of the minority alive.
Drawing attention to the importance of the elections to be held on Friday, Trampa said, "Our people, who know very well the meaning of existence of the Xanthi mufti, will show the necessary importance to the elections for the survival of this institution." used the phrase.
The first door that the people of Western Thrace will go to whenever they are stuck is the door of the mufti office.
The other candidate, Mustafa Kamo, said that the muftis had an impact on the Turkish society of Western Thrace and said, "The first door to which the people of Western Thrace will go whenever they are stuck is the door of the mufti."
Stating that they emphasized unity during the various visits they made with Mustafa Trampa before the election, Kamo said he believes that the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace would participate in the elections intensely.
