Xanthi crime spree: Police solve 17 thefts, minors among suspects

A recent string of burglaries and vehicle thefts in Xanthi has sparked concern and alarm within the local community. Over the past two months, police have been investigating a wave of criminal incidents that disrupted several neighborhoods in the region.
Following a thorough investigation, officers from the Public Safety Division and Crime Investigation Unit of Xanthi successfully solved 13 cases of shop break-ins and four car thefts committed between March 7 and May 15, 2025.
Charges have been filed against seven Greek nationals, six of whom are minors. They are accused of committing multiple counts of aggravated theft. Investigations remain ongoing to determine whether the suspects are linked to additional criminal activities.
Organized Activity: Stolen Goods, Alcohol, and Cars
According to police reports, the perpetrators acted in a coordinated and organized manner across various districts, including the city of Xanthi. The suspects allegedly broke into retail stores, damaged entry points, and stole cash, tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, and various other goods.
They are also believed to be responsible for the theft of four passenger vehicles. Three of the stolen cars have already been recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
Investigation Ongoing
The case is now being handled by the Crime Investigation Unit of Xanthi, which continues its preliminary inquiry to fully map out the suspects' operations and motives.
The fact that most of the accused are minors raises serious questions about the social conditions contributing to such behavior and highlights the urgent need for stronger prevention and monitoring measures in vulnerable communities.
