Works begin at Bahçeköy (Kipoi) Border Crossing: Municipality of Dedeağaç to sign programmatic agreement

Preparations for the upgrade of the Bahçeköy border crossing are entering their final stage, with construction works set to begin in the coming weeks.
A programmatic agreement will be signed with the Municipality of Dedeağaç. Depending on developments, Egnatia Odos—as the concessionaire—has also been asked to take responsibility for a 900-meter section of road leading up to the customs area.
Bringing Stakeholders Together
“The reason we held this meeting was to bring all stakeholders to the same table, to evaluate and record the existing institutional framework,” said Deputy Minister for Macedonia–Thrace, Mr. Galamatis.
“The Municipality of Alexandroupolis has already initiated the process, and in the coming days we will see the agreements reached today take shape,” he added.
Start of Implementation
Regarding the Kipoi project, Galamatis noted:
“We are at the end of the reconstruction preparation phase and essentially entering the first stage of implementation in the coming weeks.”
He stressed that the meeting was held to agree on interventions not only for the upcoming works but also for the road leading to the border crossing. With traffic increasing significantly, issues have arisen due to irresponsible dumping of waste along the route, creating an unsightly and at times public health–threatening situation.
