Western Thrace Turkish Women gather in İzmit for unity day
A special Unity and Solidarity Day event brought together Turkish women from Western Thrace in İzmit. Organized under the leadership of Yüksel Öztürk by the Western Thrace Turks Solidarity Association (BTTD), the event highlighted cultural heritage, community spirit, and women's empowerment.
Handcrafted Creations on Display
The event, held for the second time since its launch in January, was led by the Women’s Branch of BTTD’s İzmit Chapter. Attendees enjoyed homemade traditional dishes and viewed a display of handcrafted items created by the women of the community.
The night featured a live performance by DJ Zeynepçe, providing an opportunity for Western Thracian women to dance and celebrate together in a lively atmosphere.
Belgin Yılmaz, who taught amigurumi and bag-making workshops to local women, was honored with a commemorative plaque for her contributions.
Celebrating Women’s Leadership
The BTTD İzmit Branch shared a message of appreciation on social media following the event, stating:
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to our women leaders, women’s branch members, course instructors and participants, İzmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet, and the İzmit Municipality team for their support. We congratulate all the women who made our 2nd Unity and Solidarity Day a success.”
