Western Thrace Fenerbahçe Supporters Club appeals court ruling
An appeal hearing regarding the decision to dissolve the Western Thrace Fenerbahçe Sports and Culture Association will take place tomorrow, February 21, at 10:00 AM at the Thrace Appeals Court (1st Floor, Gümülcine Courthouse).
The Western Thrace Fenerbahçe Supporters Club issued a statement inviting supporters to attend the hearing in solidarity:
"We are appealing the unjust decision made by the previous court. Anyone who wishes to support us is invited to join us at the hearing."
The case stems from the Gümülcine Court of First Instance's decision on May 28, 2024, to shut down the association, claiming that the use of the term "Western Thrace" in its name could imply a Turkish minority association, which might be seen as a threat to public security.
Former Supreme Court President and former Prime Minister, Vasiliki Thanu, had also called for the association's closure, arguing that the term "Western Thrace" is exclusively used by Turkey and urging Greek courts to reconsider the decision.
