Turkish Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin speaks on Turkish Minority Schools in Western Thrace

During a speech at the Öze Dönüş Platform meeting, Minister Yusuf Tekin addressed the closure of Turkish minority schools in Western Thrace by Greek authorities.

Tekin Highlights the Declining Number of Schools
Minister Yusuf Tekin emphasized the significance of the Lausanne Treaty and drew attention to the current situation of Turkish minority schools in Western Thrace.

In his speech, Tekin stated:
"We must also ensure the right to education for the Turkish minority in Western Thrace. Interestingly, the number of schools belonging to our compatriots, identified as the Turkish minority in Western Thrace, has now been reduced to a quarter of what it was when the Lausanne Treaty was signed. Greece is shutting down these schools. Meanwhile, we are doing what is appropriate on our end by maintaining the continuation of these institutions. This reflects our approach to the issue."

Tekin’s remarks underscored Türkiye’s ongoing concern over the status of education for the Turkish minority in Greece.
