Traditional sacrificial feast continues in Babalar Village
The traditional “Babalar Kurbanı” was held on Sunday, 16 November, in Babalar village of the Evros (Meriç) region, drawing a large crowd from the local community as well as visitors from neighboring villages.
As part of the event, guests were served the village’s traditional “Bakırlama” dish and a variety of homemade sweets prepared by local residents.
Following the event, Gümülcine Mufti İbrahim Şerif shared a message on social media, stating:
“We attended the sacrificial ceremony in Babalar village of the Meriç region. We were welcomed with the traditional flavors of the area at this well-attended event. We thank our brothers for their invitation.”
The Turkish Consulate in Gümülcine also issued a statement:
“We met with our compatriots at the sacrificial event held in Meriç/Babalar. We extend our thanks for the invitation and the efforts behind the organization.”
Attendees included Türkiye’s Consul General in Komotini Aykut Ünal and his wife İlayda Ünal, Komotini Mufti İbrahim Şerif, SEÇEK Minority Education and Culture Association President Necmettin Kahya, Büyük Derbent Muhtar Mehmet Bostancı, Seyyid Ali Sultan Dergah elders Ahmet Paşa and Apti Pencal, former SEÇEK agha Ali Koç, former SEÇEK Association President Hasan Bekirusta, Sofulu Municipality Council Member Mehmet Çilingir, along with local administrators and residents of the region.
