The “Thrace Environmental Observatory” project, initiated under the “Natural Environment & Climate Resilience 2024” program with support from the Green Fund (Πράσινο Ταμείο), will hold an informational briefing to introduce its objectives and scope to the public.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 18:00, in the Yorgos Pavlidis Meeting Hall at the former Rodopi Prefecture building. The program will open with remarks from the Board of Directors of Thrace Weather News (Καιρικά Νέα Θράκης).

The first presentation, titled “How Much Rain Falls?”, will be delivered by Prof. Konstantinos Kurtidis, Director of the Atmospheric Pollution and Pollution Control Technologies Laboratory at Democritus University of Thrace, focusing on regional rainfall patterns and climate data.

Following this, Prof. Alexandra Gemitzis, faculty member of the Department of Environmental Engineering at Democritus University and secretary of the organizing association, will provide a comprehensive overview of the Thrace Environmental Observatory project and its objectives.

The program will continue with Dr. Ioannis Kosmadakis presenting “Designing the Environmental Data Digital Ecosystem: Implementation of the Thrace Environmental Observatory”, highlighting the project’s digital infrastructure and technical aspects.

A Q&A and evaluation session will conclude the event at 19:30. Officials have invited all citizens interested in environmental issues, climate studies, and digital data analytics to attend.
