It has been announced that 29 headsman’s offices affiliated to Orestiada Municipality, 30 flags symbolizing 30 local governments together with the central Orestiada Municipality will be planted next to the refugee camp for protest purposes.
It was emphasized that the flags to be hung were bought and gifted by the Greeks of Evros living in Germany.
In the news, which stated that the infrastructure works for the planting of the flags continue without any problems, it was announced that the flags will be planted after the completion of the ground works.
According to the news in ThessToday.gr, it was stated that the land on which 30 Greek flags will be planted is adjacent to the refugee camp.
It was noted that Kostas Sotiropoulos, who is from the village of 'Filakio', donated an area of approximately 70 square meters from 6 acres of land.
It was stated that a small church, which is stated to have the Hagia Sophia architecture, will be built in a place adjacent to the area where the flags will be planted.
It was stated that trees will be planted around the church, benches will be placed, and that the place in question will serve as a resting point.
It has been announced that the amount of money spent for churches and flags will be met by the donations of one month's salary of 29 headsman and donations from the surrounding citizens.
Speaking to ThessToday.gr, Filakio Headsman Christos Tirmpakis said, “We saw that there is no Greek flag in the area.
In order not to forget who we are and to always remember, we will raise 30 flags as much as the number of headsman.
The foundations of the flags are located right next to the refugee camp.
Refugees will see the flags as well as the ongoing and soon-to-be-finished church. With this initiative, we openly declare that this land, this place, belongs to the Greeks.” he said.
