The trial of former Golden Dawn deputies targeting Turkish Minority postponed again

The trial of ex-presidents and deputies of the far-right Golden Dawn for inciting public hatred against Turkish minority deputies has been postponed again.

The hearing of the case, where Golden Dawn ex-president and deputies will be tried for inciting public hatred against Turkish minority deputies, was to be held today (Tuesday, 8 November) at the Athens Three-Judge Criminal Court.

The hearing was adjourned because the lawyers of the defendant parties presented an excuse that they could not attend.

In a statement made yesterday by the Greek Helsinki Monitor (GHM), it was stated that Nikos Mihaloliakos, ex-chairman of the racist Golden Dawn Party, and former MPs Ilias Kasidiaris and Panayotis Iliopulos will be tried for inciting the public to hatred against the Western Thrace (Turkish) minority MPs.

In the statement, it was reminded that the said deputies were punished by the parliamentary general assembly in March 2018 for their accusatory, provocative and targeting statements against minority deputies.

In the statement of the Greek Helsinki Monitor (GHM), the parliamentary plenary recorded that Golden Down deputies described the accusation of minority deputies of being Türkiye's agents as a "racist attack" because they were conscious of Turkish national identity.

The Greek Helsinki Monitor (GHM) filed a criminal complaint against the Golden Dawn deputies. The Golden Dawn deputies were referred to the court on charges of inciting the public to hatred.

The case in question was postponed twice due to the excuses of Golden Down MPs and their lawyers before. The trial, which was expected to be discussed today, was postponed for the third time due to the excuses of the lawyers of former Golden Dawn Deputy Ilias Kasidiaris and the ex-president of the party, Nikos Mihaloliakos.

It was reported that the hearing was adjourned to 26 January 2023.
