The Israeli-Palestinian issue in the Middle East was discussed at the meeting held by the council members upon the invitation of the Speaker of the Assembly Cleopatra Stogiannidou. Regarding the issue discussed at the meeting, 28 of the council members voted in favour of the decision taken, while 1 council member voted against.

In the statement made by the municipality regarding the council meeting, the subject discussed and the decision taken, it was stated that

"In Komotini, today, Wednesday 8 November 2023, the Municipal Assembly of Komotini held an ordinary meeting upon the legal invitation of the Mayor Cleopatra Stogiannidou. The decision on the matter discussed was adopted by a majority of votes.

While 28 council members voted in favour of the decision, 1 member voted against.

The Komotini City Council, as reflected in the UN resolutions that have remained on paper for many years, expresses its concern about the conflicts in the Middle East, its reasonable solidarity with Israeli and Palestinian civilians and its absolute commitment to international law.

We are responding to the propaganda from both sides and the warmongering reactions reaching our homeland.

Peace will not come through the elimination of this or that people, but through a just and functional settlement of the Middle East, the longest-standing problem on the international scene.

In this context, we also hope that our country, with its good relations with Israel and the Palestinians, will be able to contribute to a ceasefire and ultimately to a final peace for the benefit of all peoples in the Eastern Mediterranean."
