The demonstration in Xanthi is on its 8th day: Western Thrace Turks rallied in the city centre

The demonstration of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace against the imposition of shift education at the Xanthi Minority Secondary School - High School has left behind its 8th day. Approximately 2 thousand Western Thrace Turks made the city of Xanthi groan with their slogans.
Hundreds of students, parents and representatives of the Turkish community, accompanied by slogans, this time with red cards in their hands, protested against the mentality that ignores their just demands. The protest was attended by school students, cognates from all over Western Thrace, MPs, representatives of associations, business people and candidate councillors in local administrations.
Hundreds of cognates gathered in front of Xanthi Secondary School and High School from 07.30 in the morning. Here, Mufti, MPs, mayors and heads of associations addressed the authorities and called on them to listen to the just demands of the Minority and solve the problem. The red cards in the hands were raised in the air in protest against the administration which does not put an end to the unfair and oppressive practices. Then at around 12.00 noon a march was started towards the city centre. The group came to the centre where they shouted slogans and staged a sit-in protest. It is reported that the protest will continue tomorrow, Tuesday 26 September.
