It was reported that a special telephone line will be established for the identification of people who lost their lives in the fires in Alexandroupoli and who are estimated to be irregular migrants.

According to the statement made by the Greek Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, the "Disaster Victim Identification Team", which will work under the ministry, will cooperate with the Civil Protection Secretariat and the Alexandroupoli Fire Brigade.

People who think that they are relatives of those who lost their lives can get information by calling 00302131386000 and 00306944471742 or by writing to the e-mail address dvi@astynomia.gr.

The telephone centre, which will start working from today, will provide services in English, Arabic, Pashto, Turkish and Urdu.

Identification will be made by comparing the DNA samples to be taken from the relatives of the missing and the DNA samples of the deceased.

20 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES IN FIRES

On 21 August, a shepherd in Viotia and an irregular migrant in Kavacik (Lefkimi) in Evros Region died due to the fire which has been going on for 6 days.

On 22 August, the bodies of 18 irregular migrants, including 2 children, were found in Dadia forest area in Evros Region.
