SYRIZA Xanthi Deputy Zeybek: Minority is ignored
SYRIZA Party Xanthi Deputy and Candidate Hüseyin Zeybek evaluated the elections to be held in Greece to AA and said, "The minority is ignored".
Xanthi Deputy of the Radical Left Alliance SYRIZA, the main opposition party in Greece, Hüseyin Zeybek, said that his party is willing to implement the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding the rights of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority.
Zeybek, who is once again a candidate for the SYRIZA party's deputy from Xanthi in the elections to be held on May 21 in Greece, made evaluations to the AA correspondent.
Reminding that the Xanthi Turkish Union (ITB) was closed in 1983 because it had the word Turkish in its name, and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) decisions of 2007 and 2008, it was decided that the freedom of association was violated, Zeybek said, "The decisions of the ECtHR have not been implemented.
The SYRIZA party says that these decisions can be implemented. We will work in this direction. We brought this issue to the parliament when we were in power, but we could not find support from any party. I believe that a party sensitive to human rights will approach this issue very differently. This legal struggle, which has turned into a snake story, is an event that tests democracy as well." said.
Zeybek said that Western Thrace Turkish Minority institutions were subjected to pressure during the government of the current Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis in Greece, and said that Mitsotakis ignored the minority in every visit he made to the region.
Zeybek said, "Mr. Prime Minister visited our province a few days ago. Again, he ignored our minority. Likewise, the PASOK leader was here these days. He also ignored the minority." used the phrase.
Pointing out that one of the most important problems of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority is education, Zeybek noted that the level of education is not at the desired level.
"The New Democracy government has failed in minority rights"
Zeybek stated that the newly passed law on mufti was not accepted by the minority.
Pointing out that the Greek people and the minority in Western Thrace were adversely affected by the epidemic process and the economic crisis, Zeybek stated that the middle class disappeared and the purchasing power decreased.
"Our medium-sized small farmer could not stand these policies and came to the brink of bankruptcy"
Pointing out that the wrong policies applied in Western Thrace, where agriculture and animal husbandry are generally engaged, forced the people to migrate, Zeybek said, "We have a wide-ranging agricultural policy. Cooperatives need to be revived. We look at livestock in a different way because we are in favor of the strong, which is the main view of New Democracy. And we see his policy of favoring the rich here as well. Our medium-sized small farmer could not stand these policies and came to the brink of bankruptcy." he said.
Referring to the recent tension between Türkiye and Greece, Zeybek stated that SYRIZA is in favor of solving existing problems through dialogue and that he thinks his party will implement a different foreign policy.
