Snow chain requirement introduced in Kavala and Thassos

Due to adverse weather conditions, authorities have made the use of snow chains or anti-skid equipment mandatory for vehicles in certain areas of Kavala and Thassos (Taşöz).

The Kavala Police Directorate announced that the measure came into effect on Tuesday, December 30, and will remain in force until further notice. The decision follows meteorological warnings forecasting difficult winter conditions.

Under the new regulation, vehicles traveling on mountainous and semi-mountainous road networks at elevations of 200 meters and above must be equipped with and use snow chains or equivalent anti-slip devices.

Authorities clarified that vehicles fitted with M+S (Mud + Snow) winter tires are exempt from the requirement. Compliance will be monitored by police patrols, and drivers who fail to adhere to the rule will face administrative fines in accordance with the Highway Traffic Code.
