Yorgos Kalantzis, Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, condemned the act of a person entering a mosque in Western Thrace and tearing the Holy Qurans.

In a written statement, Kalantzis stated that the incident that took place in a mosque in Xanthi region caused sorrow for everyone and that such incidents strengthened the will to continue with the same determination to respect freedom of religion.

Kalantzis noted that respecting the place of worship of every religious community is an indisputable value for Greece and is guaranteed by the Greek Constitution and congratulated the Greek police for catching the attacker. Kalancis stated that the legal process regarding the captured person continues.

In the statement made by the Mufti's Office of Xanthi, it was stated that a person entered the mosque in the village of Ilica and damaged it.

It was stated that the attacker smashed the Qurans in the mosque and threw them on the ground and damaged the curtain of the pulpit, and it was noted that the person in question was a French citizen.

Eyüp Köse, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ilıca Down Village, filed a complaint against the attacker who was detained.
