Restoration of the beekeeping park in Soufli begins

The restoration of the Beekeeping Park of the Municipality of Soufli has begun, as Piraeus Bank, within the framework of its corporate social responsibility program, has donated 5,280 beekeeping plants to the Municipality of Soufli. These include Judas trees, laurel, rosemary, strawberry trees, chestnut trees, linden trees, and Constantinople acacia. Additionally, materials for restoring the park’s irrigation system, such as water tanks and network piping, were also provided.

At the same time, the Municipality of Soufli has secured €200,000 from the Ministry of Interior through the "Natural Disasters" Program. Furthermore, the restoration of the Beekeeping Park has been incorporated into the beekeeping program titled "Recording, Mapping, Evaluation, and Management of Beekeeping Flora in the Fire-Affected Area of the Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli National Park, in Other Areas of the Evros Regional Unit, and in Regions Across the Country Affected by Extreme Weather Events of 2023."

The Municipality of Soufli, in collaboration with the Laboratory of Engineering Sciences and Surveying at the Department of Forestry and Environmental Management and Natural Resources of the Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences at Democritus University of Thrace, led by Associate Professor Apostolos Kantartzis, is not only planning the restoration of the park but also its further expansion.

This collaboration between the Municipality of Soufli and Democritus University of Thrace, with the generous support of Piraeus Bank, plays a crucial role in the restoration of the area and the enhancement of beekeeping activities, offering a new opportunity for the revival of local production.
