Turkish firm to restore minaret of Beyazıt Mosque in Didymoteicho

A Turkish firm has been assigned to carry out restoration work on the minaret of the historic Beyazıt Mosque in Didymoteicho, local reports indicate.
According to the news outlet Evros-news.gr, recent developments have taken place regarding the restoration of the 22-meter-high minaret. A full-scale metal scaffolding has been installed around the structure, allowing for the careful dismantling of its components. This process will enable necessary repairs and maintenance to address the wear and damage accumulated over the years before the minaret is reassembled.
Initially, a French firm had been tasked with the specialized restoration, but it has reportedly informed authorities that it would not be able to complete the work within the expected timeframe. As a result, a Turkish company with expertise in mosque minaret restorations has been brought in to expedite the process.
Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni is closely monitoring the restoration efforts, frequently visiting the construction site set up at the mosque last summer. She has reportedly urged for the work to be accelerated. The restoration is expected to be completed by late 2025 or early 2026.
