Organized in the village square next to the local mosque, the event was attended by key community figures, including Mustafa Trampa, Mufti of İskeçe and President of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board. The program also welcomed Aykut Ünal, Consul General of Türkiye in Gümülcine, and his spouse İlayda Ünal, as well as Abdurrahman Dursun, Mayor of Sultangazi, accompanied by an official delegation.

Other participants included İbrahim Şerif, MPs Hüseyin Zeybek and Burhan Baran, minority association leaders, local officials, and community representatives.

Unity, Solidarity, and Cultural Heritage

The iftar table, meticulously arranged by the Gökçeler Village Board of Trustees, provided a setting for speeches highlighting the themes of unity, brotherhood, and community solidarity. Mufti Trampa, Consul General Ünal, and Mayor Dursun underscored the significance of these values during the holy month.

As the evening call to prayer (Maghrib) was announced, participants broke their fast together. The ceremony included traditional drumming and the recitation of manis (folk verses) by local children, followed by the table prayer led by Mufti İbrahim Şerif and the communal evening prayer.

A Night of Reflection and Togetherness

After iftar, the gathering continued in a convivial atmosphere with tea and coffee, providing an opportunity for conversation and strengthening social bonds. Attendees expressed gratitude to all participants and emphasized hopes that Ramadan fosters peace, goodwill, and mutual respect within the Western Thrace Turkish community.

The Gökçeler iftar exemplified the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan in Western Thrace and reinforced the region’s long-standing culture of social solidarity.
