Ramadan in Western Thrace welcomed with the tradition of drumming

In the village of Sahin in Xanthi, drummers in traditional Ottoman clothes, mostly children, travelled around the village after the afternoon prayer and announced the arrival of Ramadan.

Village Imam İlter Meço told AA correspondent that this tradition creates a sense of joy and unity among the village people.

Stating that these customs strengthen the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan, Meço wished that this month would be auspicious for the entire Islamic world and the Turks of Western Thrace.

Meço said, "Especially in this month, may Allah grant the awakening and liberation of Muslims. May Allah grant the liberation of our brothers and sisters who have been massacred especially in Palestine since the occupation. We can help with our intentions, wishes and prayers. Our hope is Allah's help."
