POESI: Greek journalists gather in Meriç (Evros)
Members of the Panhellenic Federation of Journalists' Unions (POESI) and journalists' unions across Greece sent a message of support to residents of border regions by holding the pre-conference of the 19th Samothrace 2026 Journalists' Conference in the village of Taşlık (Petrota), a few kilometres from the borders with Bulgaria and Türkiye.
The president of POESI Sotiris Triantafyllou, told ANA-MPA: "We decided to meet in the northeasternmost part of the country, on Greece's borders with Bulgaria and Türkiye, sending a message of support to the residents of our border regions."
As for the 19th Samothrace Journalism Congress, it is scheduled to be held in June 2026, with topics to be determined by an organising committee.
According to POESI, the Samothrace Journalists' Conference focuses on issues affecting journalists and society, analysing and bringing to public debate matters that challenge established certainties, while emphasising the growing responsibility to defend press freedom and independence.
