In its congratulatory message on January 29, the Friendship, Equality and Peace Party touched upon the struggle of the minority against injustice and gave the message "We are not hopeless at all".
The political organ of Western Thrace Turks, Friendship, Equality and Peace (FEP) Party, celebrated the January 29, when the Turkish minority could not stand the pressures of the Greek state, denial of identity, denied rights and assimilation policies, and took to the streets to put a stop to all this, and made its voice heard.
In the congratulatory message of the party management, the Greek state's policies, the struggle and resistance of the minority society, and the message "We are not hopeless at all" was also given.
The following information is included in the congratulatory message published on January 29:
HAPPY JANUARY 29 ETHNICAL RESISTANCE AND SOLIDARITY DAY
January 29, 1988 is the day when Western Thrace Turks displayed a meaningful and honorable resistance, would not bow to meaningless pressures and shouted their national identity to the world. Two years after the same day, the racist mentality that forbade the commemoration of this National Day of Resistance on January 29, 1990 and allowed the looting of the shops of Turkish tradesmen caused indescribable pain to our people.
January 29 is the day when our minority voiced loudly that they are Turkish against those who deny their ethnic identity, that they want to live in this country without abandoning Turkish traditions, living in their own culture, feeling like an honorable citizen of this country, despite discrimination. As the Friendship Equality Peace Party, we will never forget, and we will never let it be forgetten, to commemorate this heroism, especially our late leader Sadik Ahmet, on today's anniversaries, to express gratitude to the heroes and to wish mercy to the deceased.
The Western Thrace Turkish Minority is a minority whose rights and laws have been determined by an international treaty. We want all the states of the world to evaluate this in this way. We have patiently waited and are waiting for the restoration of our minority rights that have been usurped for years. We woke up with the hope of getting better and better every new day, and we continue to wake up. Unfortunately, there has been no progress in the acquisition of our rights so far. Our country, Greece, continues to usurp our rights by imposing many laws against our minority, ignoring the voice and wishes of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority and imposing them on us. In the name of humanity and peace, we are concerned about the silence and inaction of the European States in the face of human rights violations in our homeland, Greece, which is a European Union country. These double-standard policies make us question our belief in concepts such as democracy, human rights, and freedom of expression that form the foundations of the European Union. The mind that said there were no Turks in Western Thrace years ago continues to darken our lives in all areas. We now want to be a minority in our own country, whose rights are respected, whose schools are not closed for trivial excuses, whose institutions are not raided by the police, where our heads of institutions who express their opinions are not called for an investigation, are not prosecuted, in short, are not tried to be intimidated or silenced.
We are not hopeless at all. There is no goal that cannot be reached in unity and togetherness. As the Friendship, Equality and Peace Party, we respectfully commemorate and celebrate the 29 January Ethnical Resistance and Solidarity Day. We continue our struggle with the enlightening sentence of our leader Sadik Ahmet.
“I am being taken to prison because I am a Turk. If being Turkish is a crime, I repeat it here. I am a Turk and will remain so"
