Musaköy people are in trouble with locust infestation!
The locust swarm, which first appeared in the summer season last year in the South Evros region in the vicinity of Sofular village, damaged the crops cultivated in the fields.
The locusts, which also spread to the fields of neighbouring villages, could not be eliminated last year. Locusts that disappeared in autumn and winter seasons appeared again this year. This time, locusts appeared in the fields of Musaköy, which is located in the same region, much more intensely than last year.
Since the first days of April, the region has been invaded by locusts. For about 20 days, farmers residing in the region and ploughing their fields have been struggling to save their crops from locusts.
After the kinsmen from Musaköy transferred the problem to the relevant unit of the State Presidency of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, there is no news yet from the officials who went to the region and investigated. Therefore, the citizens are worried.
The residents of the region, who were disturbed by this situation, tried to make their voices heard. For this, they shared photos and videos on their social media accounts.
Emrah Mehmetali from Musaköy, one of the residents of the region who gave information in Millet, stated that the locusts, which first appeared in the neighbouring village last year and then disappeared in cold weather, reappeared with the arrival of spring this year.
He stated that the locusts, which are much more this year, move collectively in clouds and cause serious damage to the crops cultivated in the fields.
He stated that they have conveyed the matter to the officials in the relevant department of the EMT Region Directorate, and that the officials have visited the area and made an investigation, but they have not yet received a positive or negative response to stop or destroy the locusts.
Emrah Mehmetali emphasised that the locusts are causing more damage to the crops with each passing day and tried to make the voice and distress of the people of the region heard by the authorities by stating that the locusts travelling in the fields in clouds are still small and if they grow, the problem will grow even more in the future for the region and that the relevant people should take action as soon as possible to prevent this.
