Min Livanios:"Our goal is simple: to strengthen primary and secondary self-government

Interior Minister Thodoris Livanios presented the key points of the reform under the new Local Government Code at the 10th Regular Conference of the Union of Greek Regions in Alexandroupolis. He announced that the Special Committee drafting the code is expected to finalize the text within five months.
"Our goal is simple: to strengthen primary and secondary self-government and close the gap with European countries where regional and local governments have greater powers and resources," Livanios stated.
He explained that the new code will address governance, competences, financial management, and regional development funds for regions and municipalities. Livanios emphasized incorporating proposals to enhance the absorption capacity of development funds.
The code also aims to ensure speed, transparency and efficient public money management while introducing new powers for local authorities and a revised electoral process for municipal and regional offices.
