Islamophobic statement by the Archbishop of Greece

"Islam is not a religion. It is a political party. Its people are also the people of war" said the Archbishop of Greece Ieronimos insulting Islam in a speech he gave for a television program that aired on Thursday evening, January 14th.

Speaking for a television program, Ieronimos claimed that Islam is not a religion, it is a political party and a political pursuit, and that its people, namely Muslims, are people of war and expansionism. It is a characteristic feature of Islam, so are Muhammed's teachings.

There was no reaction from the politicians in the country against the words of Archbishop Ieronimos, which incited hatred. The FEP Party, founded by the Western Thrace Turks, condemned the words of Archbishop Ieonimos with its statement: 

"In a television program which broadcasted last night we followed the words of Greek Archbishop Mr. Ieronimos in amazement. It cannot be acceptable calling our religion Islam as a political party and not a religion and naming Muslims as war people. Through the pandemic period that has wreaked havoc on world for than a year, we find difficult to understand for whom and what are serving the discriminatory and separatist expressions of leading religious functionaries who especially have to make unifying and prudential explanations. We express our regret that such words can still be spoken in 2021, and we inform the public that we strongly condemn the words of Mr. Arcbishop of Greece."
