İskeçe Mufti Mustafa Trampa issues message for Berat Night
“A Sacred Opportunity for Purification, Forgiveness, and Spiritual Renewal”
The Mufti of İskeçe, Mustafa Trampa, has issued a message on the occasion of Berat Kandili (the Night of Absolution), emphasizing that the blessed night represents a profound opportunity for spiritual purification, divine forgiveness, and inner renewal.
In his message, released on Saturday, January 31, 2026, Mufti Trampa underlined that Berat Kandili, which falls on the 15th night of the month of Sha’ban, is also regarded as the harbinger of the holy month of Ramadan. He stressed that beyond personal repentance, the night carries a powerful message of social peace, forgiveness, compassion, and brotherhood.
“Berat Is a Call to Reconcile With Allah and With One Another”
Addressing the Muslim Turkish community, Mufti Trampa stated that the word “Berat” signifies being absolved, purified, and attaining divine mercy, and that the night offers believers a chance to reflect on the past and open a new, cleaner chapter for the future.
“Berat Night enables a believer to confront both their Lord and their own conscience,” he said.
“It reminds us that Allah’s mercy surpasses His wrath and that the door of repentance is always open.”
Citing verses from the Holy Qur’an, Mufti Trampa noted that Berat Night is regarded as a night during which wise decrees are ordained, encouraging believers to cleanse their hearts from hatred, resentment, falsehood, and backbiting, and to turn sincerely toward Allah.
Emphasis on Repentance, Hope, and Social Harmony
Mufti Trampa highlighted that the essence of Berat Kandili extends beyond individual worship, calling instead for healing broken hearts, ending resentment, restoring social bonds, and strengthening communal harmony.
“Berat is not only personal purification,” he said,
“but also a call to sensitivity toward the rights of others, to forgiveness, and to rebuilding trust among people.”
He reminded worshippers that no sin is greater than divine mercy, and that the night carries a powerful message of hope, encouraging believers to begin anew through sincere repentance, prayer, and recitation of the Qur’an.
A Night of Prayer for the Oppressed and for Peace
In the concluding part of his message, Mufti Trampa called on the community to remember not only their families, neighbors, and society, but also oppressed and suffering regions around the world, particularly Gaza, in their prayers.
“Let us ask Allah to grant justice, peace, and tranquility to humanity,” he said,
expressing hope that Berat Kandili would bring peace, unity, and well-being to the Muslim Turkish community of Western Thrace, the broader Islamic world, and all of humanity.
Mufti Trampa concluded by praying that the blessed night would be a means for accepted prayers, purified hearts, and a more just and compassionate world.
